Simple explanation of the Freedom Private Medical Insurance process

Once a claim is authorised, how can treatment be sourced?

Treatment can be sourced by 1 of 4 ways:

  1. You can source treatment yourself.
This can be done by obtaining a fixed-priced package from hospitals i.e. local BUPA. In this case, the benefit would be paid directly to your bank account. You would then settle the amount directly with the hospital.
  2. You can use Preferred Health Care's (PHC) search engine.
All clients of Freedom Healthnet automatically become members of PHC; your login details will be your name and policy number. You can use the search engine to find consultants by area, speciality, language spoken etc. PHC can then arrange a fixed price package for you.
  3. You can use European Medical Care, who are specialists in taking patients to Belgium for medical treatment.
Belgium tops the list in quality of surgery, clinical standards, after-care and low secondary infection rates. Again, all clients of Freedom Healthnet automatically become members of European Medical. Furthermore, the cost of treatment is highly competitive.
  4. Freedom Healthnet can source and arrange a fixed-price package for you.
In this case, you would specify your needs, and Freedom Healthnet would recommend sources. They have the ability, via Preferred Health Care and European Medical, to negotiate savings on fixed-price packages (through bulk-buying), making the cost of treatment even more competitive. This would mean that Freedom Healthnet would do all the work in sourcing treatment leaving you with the choice and savings. For further details, please contact Freedom Healthnet.

What would happen if a complication occurred during surgery?

Complications are usually covered in the contract between yourself and the hospital. If in such an instance it was not covered, they would certify the treatment based on whether it is medically necessary, reasonable and appropriate as well as the method of underwriting selected (i.e. moratorium or CPME). They would cover you up to your annual selected limit.

How are you covered if you do not go for your expected treatment?

The purpose of the plan is to provide private medical treatment, and we strongly advise you to seek medical treatment once you receive your benefit. However, if you choose not to, the choice is yours. If you do not have the medical treatment, NHS or private, and another condition arises from this, any subsequent related conditions would be excluded.
